Lesson 9 - Network Neighborhood and Recycle Bin

What is the Network Neighborhood Icon for?

Windows98 makes joining computers together in a network relatively easy. When that is done, the Network Neighborhood Icon will provide you with information about the network and the computers which are hooked together to form the network. Networked computers can share printers (and other hardware), as well as information, files, etc.

What is the Recycle Bin Icon for?

The Recycle Bin provides temporary storage for deleted files. Often times you will delete a file only to find that you really need it for some reason. If you delete a file it moves to the recycle bin where it can either be retrieved or truly deleted. You need to empty your recycle bin periodically as it does use memory to store all the files you have put there.

Go to your Recycle Bin icon on your desktop and Right click. A menu will pop-up. Choose Properties. You will see that you have a Recycle Bin for each of your hard-drives and you can change the settings for each one or use global settings for all of them. You can increase or decrease the size of your Recycle Bin or choose to have files deleted immediately instead of being put into temporary storage. See Windows* Help for further information.
