Project A

This was our second HTML project - one we started as a continuation of our ongoing education about HTML and thinking that the complteted project could possibly be a sales item on eBay. It originated as a "You and Your Computer" type tutorial - something that was sorely needed at the time (1999). We (mostly Linda) spent a ton of hours on this project, and were still working on it when circumstances overtook us and forced us to (temporarily, we thought) set it aside in early 2001. That's when we started our eBay business, and we seriously underestimated how much time that would require! For the next 3 plus years that would take up all our time, 7 days a week. And, during that time, the guy on television started selling the computer tutorials on CD. A good idea, and he got there "the fustest, with the mostest".

Now this project is obsolete. Instead of a "You and Your Computer" tutorial it's more of a "Windows 95/98" tutorial, with some coverage of the original Pentium (and earlier) type hardware. It's good background and can still teach quite a lot about computers in general, but it's no longer topical. And I seriously doubt that we'll ever try to update it - that's probably beyond us.

Still, this is a good place to learn something. The Windows 98 operating system is not radically different from Windows XP (or Vista, for that matter, which is just now being introduced) - some of the things you learn in the older OS will carry over into the newer. And the hardware section will at least expose you to the inside of a computer. At some level a computer is a computer is a computer: what you learn here about all computers will help you with your computer.

We never got around to naming our work - it was always "Project A". Well, too late now. The link is the underlined title at the head of this page. Feel free to wander around, sampling the different areas and sections. We hope someone gets some benefit from this...

The HTML coding is a little dated now, but it should work with all browsers, old and new. We probably won't rewrite the code to bring this up to date, although portions may be extracted, updated and moved into the "Computer" area of our Banquet section.
