eBay Home
Selling on eBay is an interesting, and difficult, way to make money. Done properly, it's a business, and, like any other business, requires disipline, dedication and more than a few marketing skills. We did okay on the disipline and dedication part, but were probably a little short on marketing skills.
We were full-time sellers on eBay from early 2001 to mid-2004, a little over 3 years. After two and a half years off (at the end of 2006), we're considering re-entering the business sometime in 2007. Hopefully we've learned some things in our first try and things will go a little easier this time.
We have a page about our eBay business, posted here, which we had written for one of our other (older) home pages. It was written in 2002 (I believe), so I've completely rewritten it to both update the HTML code and to more accurately reflect our viewpoint today. That page has some examples of ads we wrote for eBay.
There are a couple of things to see that come from when we were running the business before. The first is the "About Me" page that is posted on eBay so potential customers can get some idea who they are dealing with. That is reproduced here. It's a little dated now, and will need to be updated if and when we decide to get back in the business. And here is a page I wrote about the feedbacks system on eBay - written back in February of 2004.
There are a million things that could be written about doing business on eBay - both from the buyer's perspective and from the sellers viewpoint. It's not an easy business to do well, but it is one way to become self employed through sheer drive and determination (and not too much money!). And as a buyer, whether you want something unique (and/or locally unavailable) or just a resounding bargain, eBay's your place. If whatever you want is not there now, keep checking... it will be!
