Our first computer was a Commodore 64, purchased in 1985. Then we bought an Amiga in 1986 - it was just an Amiga when we bought it, but became (rectroactively) an Amiga 1000 when later versions came out. Then we assembled our first "PC" clone in 1987 (or 1988) from parts bought at a Dell Computer "fire sale" (we lived in Austin, Texas at the time) - a 286 running at (I think) 14 mhz, with a 5 1/4" 1.2 Mb floppy and a HUGE 10 Mb hard drive. All this was before the Internet, of course, but we had an external 1200 baud modem to connect to local bulletin boards. Since then we've had just about all the evolutions in the progress of PC type computers. And we've pretty well struck with the PC clone type computers - the Amiga taught us a valuable lesson about venturing down dead-end pathways in the computer world. We judged the Apple/Macintosh branch to be mostly a cult-following type of venture - okay if that's your thing, but we'd rather learn how the real world computes.

We don't claim to be experts in either hardware or software when it comes to computers. What we have is 20 plus years of - part-time - messing around with them, so we've learned a few things. We'd like to maybe pass on some hints or tricks or some background articles that might help other folks get a little more comfortable with their computers.

As a starter, here is an article about computer-to-mouse connectors. It's an expanded version of what I used to put in my ads on eBay when I sold mice...

For right now, though, this section is:
